About Me
I started my journey with the violin at the age of 3 years old when I started taking Suzuki violin lessons, a pedagogical approach to classical violin that places emphasis on learning by ear and based in the theory of learning one's mother tongue in language. With the patient support of my family in those early years I learned the fundamentals and soon started playing in various youth ensembles and orchestras.
A somewhat unconventional entrance into the professional music world happened when I began street performing at around 7 or 8 years old which opened up my eyes to the broad scope of creative possibilities as I began to meet all sorts of performers and creatives through the medium of busking. As I progressed into my teens I joined my first working bands. During this time I also picked up experience with guitar, mandolin, banjo, double bass and singing.
I took my experience abroad to China between 2015 and 2017 where I worked as a performing musician alongside my primary employment as an English language teacher. After this I returned to Scotland and went full speed ahead into a full-time musical career.
The Auld Reekie String Band formed in 2017 and soon after Sociograss was also formed and this sparked my passion for the American folk styles; oldtime, bluegrass, western swing and early country. My flair for the experimental and the electronic side of music was spurred on when I was asked to join Wolfnote shortly after.
Post-Coronavirus I decided to take a break from work in Scotland and strike out abroad once more; my first destination on that trip being Nepal where I met and formed the Hot Club of Patan and began inroads into the jazz Manouche genre which once more engaged the classical technique and sensibilities that I had developed in my youth.
I now enjoy a busy career as a working musician, playing live, teaching and recording. Use the button below to find out more about my current and past projects.
